Monmouthshire visitors can now plan their trips without the need for paper copies of brochures.
The latest tourist guides to be produced by Monmouthshire County Council’s tourism section have been published to the internet as ‘e-brochures’.
The move follows the digitisation of the 2009 Wye Valley & Vale of Usk visitor guide, which has been viewed over 1,000 times since being made available at the start of January. This is in addition to the 90,000 copies of the guide that are being distributed via a range of marketing promotions.
‘Get Out in the Wye Valley & Vale of Usk‘, the new outdoor activities guide, and the spring edition of ‘What’s On in the Wye Valley & Vale of Usk‘ have both been given the same treatment, being available in printed form, as a downloadable PDF and as e-brochures.
Mark Jones, Tourism Marketing Officer for Monmouthshire County Council, said:
“Recent years have seen a slow but steady shift away from traditional holiday brochures in favour of internet-based research. Although many visitors still prefer to look through a printed guide, there is a growing demand for online sources of information and e-brochures have been created in response to that demand.
“Our e-brochures can be browsed through, just like traditional guides, and may be viewed on or offline, from the visitor website, www.visitwyevalley.com. But the great thing is that all of the email and website addresses are live links, which means that readers can click straight through to the websites of individual tourism businesses or event organisers. It not only saves time for the reader, but provides business operators with more immediate access to potential visitors.
“In the longer term, e-brochures will enable us to reduce publication costs and minimise our carbon footprint by reducing the amount of print that we produce.”
All three publications will continue to be available in printed form for the foreseeable future, and copies of the latest editions can be picked up from local tourist information centres or by contacting the tourism section on 01633 644842
