Grant Applications are now being taken by Neath Port Talbot Council to support community groups who organise firework displays in celebration of Guy Fawkes Night.
Following on from the success of last year’s scheme, eligible community groups can now apply for grants of up to £500 to organise their own firework displays and also receive help and advice on safety at the event.
The council’s safety advisory group which incorporates officers from the fire and ambulance services, the police and council officers, examines each application carefully, against strict criteria, to ensure that all risk assessment and appropriate paperwork are completed satisfactorily.
Those applications that are successful will then receive grants towards the costs of organising their own event.
Leader of Council, Ali Thomas, commends the work done by cabinet member for leisure, Mike James and the special events team.
He said, “Last year a total of £4,000 was awarded to eligible groups. I am delighted that the scheme is available again this year because by encouraging smaller, individual displays throughout the county borough, it gives residents in all communities an opportunity to celebrate bonfire night safely.”
Groups can find out more about this scheme by contacting Kerry Jones or Suzette Phillips on 01639 860008 or preferably via email at [email protected]. The closing date for receipt of applications is 25th September 2009. For more information visit www.npt.gov.uk
