Responding to today’s Assembly Government statement on the implications for Wales of the Budget, Shadow Finance Minister Nick Ramsay AM said:
“Wales was facing cuts whichever party won the General Election. What is important now is for the Assembly Government to play its part constructively in reducing the legacy of debt left by the previous Labour administration at Westminster.
“There is a role for the Labour-Plaid government to fulfil in terms of growing the size of the private sector, supporting business, and encouraging economic growth, as well as supporting those in our poorest communities.
“Rather than ignoring Wales, yesterday’s Budget offered targeted help for the lowest paid and most vulnerable, as well as support for Welsh businesses.
“Because of the legacy left by Gordon Brown difficult decisions have to be made and made now. The prospects for Wales in the long term will be far worse if the Government did not act now.”
