As Wales prepares to host golf’s famous Ryder Cup for the first time this autumn, Cardiff’s award winning singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph has unveiled a special song to mark the historic event in his homeland.
The man dubbed “the Welsh Springsteen” was a guest at a star-studded event in Cardiff honouring golfing hero Ian Woosnam, Wales’ only Major golf winner (US Masters, 1991) as he was enrolled into the revered Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
Among VIP guests were Welsh rugby legends John Dawes and JJ Williams and cricketers Tony Lewis and Don Shepherd as well as First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones and his long-serving predecessor Rhodri Morgan.
Joseph, one of acoustic music’s most arresting artists and BBC Welsh Music Awards “Best Male Artist” winner, fittingly took to the stage at the Mercure Holland House Hotel event to give the first live performance of On this Celtic Morning.
The heartfelt and empathic new song perfectly captures the pride rippling through Wales as it counts down to being the host nation for the iconic biennial transatlantic tournament at Newport’s Celtic Manor this October, played out between Europe and the USA (Woosnam himself captained the victorious European Ryder Cup team in 2006).
