Plans to improve Pontardawe Town Centre are in the pipeline.
A number of proposed projects that will make Pontardawe a more attractive place to live, visit and do business will be put on public display at Pontardawe Arts Centre from 30th June to 14th July.
A public consultation was held last year on the regeneration priorities for the town. The Council has used the feedback from the consultation to develop more detailed plans for the town centre which will be displayed at the Arts Centre.
At the exhibition members of the public will get the chance to have their say on these proposals.
Proposals include new paving, signage, lighting, access improvements, car parking and landscaping throughout the town. Areas set to benefit include Herbert Street and High Street (including the Cross area), Herbert Square, Paradise Car Park, New link to Parc Ynysderw and shop front and building improvements.
Residents and businesses who don’t get the chance to visit the exhibition can log onto the council’s website www.npt.gov.uk/regeneration from the 30th June where they can view and comment on the proposals.
The feedback from this consultation will be used to develop the detailed plans which will be used to seek funding from the Welsh Assembly Government (Western Valleys Strategic Regeneration Area).
Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said, “Improving Pontardawe Town Centre forms part of our plans under the Western Valleys Strategic Regeneration Area. It is important that we involve local people to finalise the plans that are set to improve the appearance and operation of the town.
It is also hoped that this work will develop Pontardawe’s sense of place and distinctiveness and improve pedestrian accessibility, particularly the connectivity between the town centre and Parc Ynysderw.”
