Wise up to waste helps shoppers recycle

Shoppers in Swansea will be given tips on how to recycle more of their waste during a special week long event all about waste.

As part of the ‘Wise up to Waste Week’, Swansea Council Recycling Officers will be out and about in a number of locations, answering questions on recycling and given shoppers everything they need to help do their bit for the environment.

The special recycling information days will be held at Asda in Llansamlet this Friday, before the team moves on to Oxford Street in the city centre on Saturday 26 June.

Trish Flint from Swansea Council’s Recycling Team said, “Wise up to Waste Week is all about challenging people’s perception of waste and getting them to think more about what they are throwing away.

“The Council has introduced a wide range of kerbside recycling services which are needed to ensure we reduce the amount of domestic waste we regularly send to landfill.

“Shoppers can come and ask questions relating to these services and also pick up some recycling sacks to help them do the right thing.”

The Council has recently introduced a plastic recycling service in the city. The majority of residents should now have special pink sacks they can use to dispose of household plastic.

John Hague Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said, “Tough landfill allowance targets mean we need to do all we can to prevent as much domestic waste going to landfill as we can.

“We need residents to support our efforts to recycle more and help improve our local environment.”
