The local environment in the Ogwen valley is set to benefit thanks to a financial boost by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme.
The Council can offers grants to community groups and societies to improve the natural environment by holding environmental improvement events, tackling projects and purchasing equipment.
Glanogwen Parish Council has been successful in its application for a grant to purchase new equipment to cut the grass, which will help the parish council to maintain the grounds at three of the churches in its care – Glanogwen Christ Church; Coetmor Church and Llanllechid Church. The grant has allowed a group of volunteers to buy litter picking tools, gloves for the job and bin bags.
The Reverend Nia Catrin Williams said:
“The grant will allow us to buy new equipment. Cemetery upkeep will be far easier for our volunteers and we hope the local community will benefit from the fruits of our labour soon.”
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Environment portfolio leader, added:
“As part of the Tidy Towns scheme we are encouraging people to adopt a sense of pride in the environment and their local community. I would urge anyone who is interested in holding an environmental action day or in setting up a community group to contact Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns officer for more information.”
The Tidy Towns grant is part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s environment improvement fund and is administered locally by Gwynedd Council working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy.
