Simple steps to deter thieves

Police are asking householders to be on their guard as the hot weather continues.

Superintendent Mark Owen, who is based in Caernarfon, said: “It is very tempting during this very hot spell to leave doors and windows open but this could be seen as an open invitation by opportune thieves to enter your property. People should just take some simple steps to deter the thieves.”

When you are out of the house ensure that all windows and doors are closed and that your doors are locked even if you are only out for a short time

Even when you are at home, it is advisable to keep doors locked. Don’t leave downstairs windows open at night and if you want your upstairs windows open only open them as far as any security devices fitted will allow.

  • As much as is possible make sure that valuables are out of sight
  • Put keys out of reach from windows or doors.
  • Be a good neighbour and report all suspicious incidents to the Police. For non emergencies call 101.

Superintendent Owen said “ Even though we live in one of safest places in the UK these extra precautions can further reduce the odds of you being a victim of crime this summer”
