Charity appeal gets off to a flying start

The new Mayor of Caerphilly county borough council officially launched his charity appeal this week and was delighted with the impressive amount that has already been collected to kickstart his fundraising campaign.

Cllr James Fussell hosted the launch event at Penallta House council HQ in Ystrad Mynach and was delighted with the support being shown at such an early stage.

James announced he has selected two charity appeals to benefit during his year in office – Ty Hafan, the family hospice and Golden Grove, a charity which aims to purchase and restore a building for use as the first convalescent home for injured servicemen and women.

A fantastic sum of £3,000 was pledged on the night thanks to a number of fundraising events that have taken place over the last few weeks including a charity bike ride down the length of Wales by CCBC staff.

“I was overwhelmed with the level of support that was evident at the launch event and would like to thank everyone for their kind donations,” said James. “The two charities are very worthy causes and the money raised will be put to good use benefiting many people from our communities. I look forward to organising more fundraising events and activities over the next 12 months and hope this level of support continues.”

If anyone would like to donate money for this year’s appeal they can call Joy Thomas, the Mayor’s Assistant on 01443 864360.
