South Wales Police is continuing its search for missing pensioner William John Williams in Newport after reporting sightings from the public.
Residents in the Rhiwderin and Coed Kernew areas of the city are now being asked to check their gardens and outbuildings to help find Mr Williams.
Mr Williams, who has dementia and slurred speech, has not been seen by family or friends since leaving his home in Penygraig, Rhondda, almost a week ago at 1pm on Friday, June 25.
Superintendent Simon Clarke, deputy divisional commander for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff Police, said: “I have grave concerns for Mr William’s safety because of his age, his medical condition, and distressed state.
“We are doing everything possible to trace Mr Williams and following information received from the public we are now extending our investigation to the Newport area where we are being assisted by Gwent Police.
“I would kindly request that people in the Rhiwderin and Coed Kernew check their sheds and garages where it is possible that Mr Williams has been sleeping.”
South Wales Police has received information in relation to the following sightings of Mr Williams:
- 6.40pm Friday, June 25 getting off a bus at Caerphilly Bus Station.
- 1pm Saturday, June 26 in The Rhiwderin Inn, Rhiwderin, Newport.
- 8.15am Sunday, June 27 in a back garden of a house in Coed Kernew, Newport.
Supt Clarke added: “I would like to thank the media, and members of the public who have responded to our appeals for information.
“Mr Williams’ family, who are extremely worried, are being regularly updated on our investigation.”
Mr Williams, who is known locally as Johnny Boxer, is described as white, of heavy build with short grey hair, and is around 5ft 8in tall. He has a small scar under his lower lip and a black scar on his right forearm.
He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, brown trousers, black shoes and might be carrying a blue jacket.
Anyone who sees Mr Williams is asked to contact South Wales Police immediately on 999.
