Rhyl Police Station re-opens

Rock star Mike Peters returned to his home town last week to open the newly refurbished police station.

The station on Wellington Road in Rhyl has been closed for a year while the refurbishment was undertaken.

During the closure the community policing team were based at the Fire Station on the Coast Road and other officers were located at the Divisional Headquarters in St Asaph.

At the official opening last week Chief Superintendent Simon Humphreys said: “This is a celebration of being back in Rhyl and back in the community.”

“Its about working together, ensuring that Rhyl is integrated into part of making North Wales a great place to live – a place we can be proud of. With operational staff back we’re concentrating on making a real difference

The refurbishment, which cost nearly £1million, has brought the police station, which was built in 1972, into the 21st century, with CCTV on the top floor of the building, more offices, a briefing room, a bigger front desk and a complete new heating system.

As he unveiled the plaque in the new foyer, Mike Peters, front man for the Rhyl based rock band The Alarm said: “It is a partnership between the police and the community. This shows the police are here to help and to make it a safe place to live.”

Mayors of Rhyl and Prestatyn, Margaret McCarroll and Michael Eckersley said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the police are being brought back into the community. It means safety for our residents and it’s a bit of a warning to those who wish to make it less safe.”

“It’s bringing the community together for the betterment of Rhyl.”
