Neyland Community School is the latest school in Pembrokeshire to be awarded the Bronze Sustainable Schools Award.
The award is in recognition for the work pupils have been doing on waste and recycling, biodiversity and healthy living.
It was presented to them recently by Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People.
The pupils have set up a number of initiatives including a Coastal Care group made up of parents, teachers and pupils that meet regularly at weekends to keep the local coastline clean.
Meanwhile, in school the pupils grow vegetables and encourage wildlife into the school garden they have developed. They are also lucky enough to be able to share work with their link school in Zanzibar.
“The pupils are looking forward to being able to carry on with their sustainable work in the new school building when it is ready,” said Janie Pridham, Sustainable Schools Officer.
“They had the opportunity to voice their views at the planning stages and this will help sustainability become a real part of school life.”
The Sustainable Schools Award scheme recognises efforts to improve quality of life and the environment without damaging the planet for future generations.
