Neath Port Talbot’s 3rd Annual Police Open Day was held at the weekend and was once again a great success.
Despite the unseasonal weather, around 2,000 visitors passed through the gates of Neath Police Station to get a glimpse of the work carried out by South Wales Police and its various partner agencies.
Local officers were on hand to show what happens to prisoners in custody and how crimes are solved using the latest forensic technology.
Police dogs and horses, traffic cars and armed response vehicle demonstrations once again proved a big attraction, while youngsters were given the chance to win tickets to win Swansea City football tickets in Neighbourhood Policing competition.
The fire service gave a display of the devastating effects of a chip pan fire and community safety partners highlighted the work being done to keep Neath Port Talbot safe.
Among the visitors were Neath MP and Shadow Welsh Secretary Peter Hain, South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Richard Lewis, Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias of Western BCU, Neath Port Talbot Council leader Ali Thomas and Police Authority member Eddie Jones.
Superintendent Joe Ruddy, operational commander for Neath Port Talbot Police, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day which gave us and our partners the opportunity of showcasing the work being done on a daily basis to keep our communities safe.
“It was great to see members of the public engaging with my officers at such a fun event. I would like to thank everyone who attended and the planning team who made the event such a success.”
