S4C’s innovative new High Definition channel S4C Clirlun is now available throughout Wales and for the first time ever this week’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in Llanelwedd will be broadcast in the new enhanced format.
S4C Clirlun is broadcast on Freeview HD in Wales simultaneously with the current standard definition service. It provides pictures with greater detail than viewers are used to seeing on current services.
S4C has been commissioning programmes in Clirlun for some time and from this week viewers throughout Wales will be able to enjoy the new channel. By the end of 2012, S4C plans to be producing all of its programmes in Clirlun.
Chief Executive of S4C, Iona Jones, said, “S4C Clirlun is a totally new service offering pictures of the highest possible technical quality available on the Freeview HD platform.
“We are by now a wholly Welsh language service. We have created high quality programmes in a range of genres in order to make the most of the opportunity to provide an entirely Welsh schedule on S4C from morning until night. Many of our programmes are already available on Clirlun and this process will continue until all our productions are on S4C Clirlun in two and a half years’ time.”
