Five sites in Conwy County have scooped prestigious Green Flag Awards this year.
Wynn Gardens in Old Colwyn, Happy Valley Gardens in Llandudno and the Great Orme Country Park & Local Nature Reserve have retained the award and this year Bodlondeb, Conwy and Queens Gardens, Colwyn Bay have also gained green flag status.
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.
The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country. It was also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.
Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Mike Priestley said, “These awards are a testament to all the hard work by parks staff, countryside wardens, local community groups and residents. We’re especially pleased with our first time award for Bodlondeb and Queen’s Gardens.”
“Well done and thank you to everyone that put so much hard work into providing these vital green spaces.”
This year’s winners collected their flags at a ceremony at the Royal Welsh Show.
