Green flag glory at four Swansea parks

They attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and now four Swansea parks have been commended for their cleanliness and the standard of their facilities.

Clyne Gardens, Singleton Botanical Gardens, Victoria Park and Brynmill Park have all again been allocated prestigious Green Flag status for scoring excellently across a range of areas.

The Green Flag scheme was introduced in Wales eight years ago and has since become the national standard for parks both here and in England.

Receiving the status is a sure sign to visitors that a park is judged to be a high-quality green space that gives visitors a hugely rewarding experience.

Only parks that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible for the award scheme.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “We take pride in our parks and outdoor spaces in Swansea and receiving four Green Flag awards is testament to the many hours of hard work that go on behind the scenes.

“Parks are wonderful places to relax or take part in fun activities and it’s important the people of Swansea have quality attractions of this kind right on their doorsteps.

“Sustained success in the Green Flag scheme not only speaks volumes for the commitment of our staff but also helps promote Swansea throughout Wales and the rest of the UK.”

Clyne Gardens is an internationally-renowned woodland garden haven that’s famed for its range of Rhododendron plant collections, discovery trails, bog garden, bluebell wood and wild flower meadow.

Singleton Botanical Gardens boasts spectacular herbaceous borders and large glasshouses that reproduce a variety of different climates from around the world thanks to the expertise of specialist parks staff.

Victoria Park is a busy urban beauty spot that provides facilities for all ages and Brynmill Park recently benefited from a £1.3m restoration scheme that’s resulted in huge improvements to what’s one of Swansea’s oldest and most popular parks.
