Clwb 60+ Club in Llangynin welcomed Carmarthen Assembly Member Angela Burns as guest speaker at their monthly meeting to celebrate being given a cheque for £2,960 from The Awards for All Wales. The club intend to use the money for trips out including a visit to Devils Bridge Railway and up to Cardiff for a performance of Mama Mia.
Assembly Member Angela Burns kept them entertained with descriptions of how her young children love to bop around to Mama Mia and appear to know most of the songs. On a more serious note Mrs Burns also gave a behind the scenes talk on life as an AM, her work in the constituency and the highs and lows of the challenges some people face.
Mrs Burns said “What a dynamic bunch of people, the club has a real community feel and I want to congratulate all those who set it up. It’s grown from 14 to over 50 members, with many who are in their eighties and grants such as the The Awards for All Wales are of vital importance to give organisations like this the opportunity to get out and have fun. I talked about how people’s perceptions of older people can be quite negative sometimes and about the issues and misunderstandings that sometimes surround the generation gap between retired folk and teenagers. But the enthusiasm and energy of the Llangynin club just shows that being retired from work doesn’t mean you are retired from life”
Founder member Mrs Plumb said, “We are thrilled with our award as this money will enable us to continue to provide valuable service for members”.
