Youth award for Garage team

Pictured are members of ‘Garageland' receiving their award from the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor John George, along with Sacrlets rugby players Dominic Day and Phil John.

Members of the ‘Garage’ youth centre in Haverfordwest, received local recognition of their national achievement at a recent presentation evening in County Hall.

The young people and workers from the County Council’s youth service, Pembrokeshire Youth, who form ‘Garageland’ were winners in the ‘Expressive’ project category of the Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards 2010.

They received the award for their work in organising the ‘South West Youth Fest’ in which for the past four years local bands have had the opportunity to showcase their talent on an open air stage in front their peers.

The festival has also included in the past such attractions as a dance tent, an ‘alternative entertainments’ tent, skateboarding ramps, grafitti art, a climbing wall and a diary room.

Plans are well advanced for this year’s festival at the Withybush showground from 12 noon to 12 midnight on the 11th of September. ‘Garageland’ members predict it will be the best to date.
