Tidy Towns staff have been out in force in Fairwater, removing graffiti and collecting litter.
A lane and bridge between Lougher Place and Wroughton Place have been targeted by officers, who joined forces with Keep Wales Tidy, Cardiff Council’s graffiti team and local councillors.
Three walls which had previously been blighted by extensive graffiti were painted by everyone who took part, and five large bags of litter were also collected.
After the success of this initial clean-up, Tidy Towns is now looking to hold a larger event, involving more members of the local community. Overgrown vegetation will be cut back and a graffiti-covered bridge in the area will also be targeted for cleaning and painting.
Executive Member for Environment, Cllr Margaret Jones, said: “Tidy Towns is a really successful initiative that is helping to make our city safer and cleaner, and what’s happening in Fairwater is a really great example of that. It’s all about getting the community to take part as well and it’s great to see that the team will be getting more people involved in an even bigger event in the near-future.”
