Pupils at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell in Caerphilly have recently been putting their photography skills to the test, with the winning photographs being featured in a colourful calendar.
In conjunction with Cadw, the school held a competition for the children to take photographs of Caerphilly Castle.
The winners of the competition have had their photographs featured in a brand new calendar, “Caerphilly Castle – Through the eyes of a child’, which will be sold worldwide.
The ‘Friends of the School’ at Ysgol Y Castell have organised an exhibition and presentation evening to launch the 2010 calendar, which will be held on:
Thursday 22nd October from 6.30pm until 8pm in the Great Hall, Caerphilly Castle.
All proceeds raised will go towards the new school hall, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.
Cabinet member for education and leisure, Cllr Phil Bevan said, “The fact that this calendar will be sold worldwide will help us to really put Caerphilly on the map, and show a worldwide audience how much the Caerphilly county borough has to offer, not least our magnificent castle which the children have portrayed so beautifully in this calendar.”
Chair of the Friends of the School at Ysgol Y Castell, Mrs Fiona Thomas said, “I would encourage as many people to come along to the exhibition as possible. Your presence and support would be greatly appreciated by the children and all those involved in the project.”
