Bringing planning closer to the community

Denbighshire County Council’s  Planning staff have been working with town and community councils across the county, to raise awareness of the planning application process.

The town and community councils receive statutory consultations on all planning applications submitted to Denbighshire County Council. They then have the opportunity to submit their representations which are taken into account when members of the Planning Committee discuss applications.

Training sessions have been carried out with the intention of sharing knowledge with members of town and community councils that will assist them when assessing applications.  The sessions have also improved communication and engagement with the councils.

Councillor Sharon Frobisher, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “Seven sessions have been carried out so far bringing huge benefits to both the Planning team and town and community councils.

“We want to make sure that the voices of local communities are heard and a protocol has now been developed which sets out the roles of the Planning team and the town and community councils. It is hoped that this protocol can be developed further, enabling town and community councils to become more involved in the planning process and other issues of relevance to their communities.”
