Moelfre RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched on Saturday (31st) to assist a 16 foot speed boat with engine failure two miles off the Anglesey coast.
The four people on board the boat, all from the Stockport area, had raised the alarm with their mobile phone and were not wearing lifejackets. The men had phoned the Holyhead Coastguard who requested the launch of the Moelfre RNLI inshore lifeboat.
Dave Massey, RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer at Moelfre said:
‘The speed boat’s crew didn’t have lifejackets; we urge anyone who goes out to sea on a boat to be wearing one. Also their means of calling for help was by a mobile phone, which is not recommended because the signal can easily be lost. With a VHF radio, immediate assistance can always be requested. We would always advise people to have a VHF radio in their boat and know how to use it.’
The Moelfre RNLI Inshore Lifeboat towed the speed boat and its occupants into Traeth Bychan.
