Tresaith lifeguards play their part in catamaran rescue

Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards assisted in the rescue of a 36-year-old man from Somerset whose catamaran had capsized 250 metres offshore of Tresaith Beach in Ceredigion on Friday 30 July.

RNLI lifeguards Cass Brown and Angharad Evans had seen the vessel capsize and were monitoring the situation, to see if the man could right the vessel himself.

It became clear after a while that he was struggling to right the catamaran and lifeguard Cass Brown paddled out on a rescue board with a radio to help the man, while lifeguard Angharad Evans phoned the Coastguard to say assistance would be required.

The Coastguard radioed out for assistance and a lifeboat was called. However, two lifeboat crew members from Fishguard lifeboat, who were working nearby on a range boat off Bay, were able to come to the scene of the incident and were able to right the boat and turn it back in to AberporthTresaith Beach.

No further assistance was required.
