Gwynedd Council has welcomed the announcement by the Welsh Assembly Governement that a £4.4 milion investment has been secured towards the Blaenau Ymlaen scheme in Blaenau Ffestiniog. The Council has been working in partnership on the Blaenau Ymlaen initiative since 2007, and this funding will ensure the sucess of the development.
The project will include physical improvements to Church Street and the High Street, as well as improvements to local shops, and customer care, business and entrepreneurship courses for local residents. The aim of the development is to encourage people to spend time in the town and will contribute to the local economy.
Councillor Dewi Lewis, who leads on the Economy on Gwynedd Council said:
“This fanancial boost from the Assembly Government is great news for the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and will enable us to move forward with the regeneration plans for the town. Our priority for now will be to work with the local comunity to ensure that Blaenau Ffestiniog can make the most of this investment.”
Bob Cole, Blaenau Ymlaen Chairman added:
“We are delighted to receive this funding, and this is a great example of what can be achieved when local residents, the Council and the Assembly work together. We now look forwards to seeing the work developing over the next few years, and strongly believe that this will spur further investment in the town.”
Work will continue over the next few months to prepare detailed plans for the development.
