Eco-Bunny and Henson the Hedgehog were on hand to ensure that visitors to the Margam Discovery Centre had a great, informative and fun afternoon at a recent Biodiversity event for Neath Port Talbot.
Local communities and tourists alike took part in a nature trail around Margam Park. Officers from NPT Biodiversity unit made bird feeders, bumblebee hats and butterfly clips and with local bat and moth experts led a bat walk where a large enthusiastic crowd witnessed a spectacular display of bats over the pond.
An excited young nature detective said “I had a great time! I learned so much from all the experts, they were great. I really enjoyed the bat walk, it was awesome. I never knew we had so many different insects living so close to us and we must look after them.”
Two groups took part in the expert led mini-beast hunt with sweep nets and trays much to the delight of young budding nature detectives. Local artists kept the children entertained with face painting. The youngsters also made an impressive collection of reptiles and amphibians made from recycled materials.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Ali Thomas said “This fun and educational event at Neath Port Talbot’s award winning Discovery Centre gave families an opportunity to find out more about the diverse local wildlife that thrives in Neath Port Talbot.
“This great event has enabled the community to learn more about the area in which they live and discover why biodiversity is important for a healthy environment.”
