Denbighshire is shortlisted for major award

Denbighshire County Council is celebrating after being the only Welsh council shortlisted for the APSE Service Awards as ‘2010 Overall Council of the Year in Service Delivery.

Over 25 authorities entered four or more submissions in various categories making them eligible for this award. After breaking down the scores for each authority’s top four, Denbighshire, which had five nominations in all, was among the ten shortlisted councils and will now go head to head with the likes of City of Edinburgh Council, Hull City Council, and South Gloucestershire Council at a special gala dinner and award ceremony at County Derry, Northern Ireland on September 9.

APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) is a not for profit local government body working with over 300 councils throughout the UK to promote excellence in public services.

Leader for Denbighshire County Council, Councillor Hugh Evans, said: ”This is a fantastic result for Denbighshire – we should all be so proud!”

“Over the last two years, officers and members have worked tirelessly together to improve the service we provide to our residents and this nomination bears testimony to that.”

“This has really been a team effort and this shows we are committed to being a high performing council, closer to our communities.”

“We shall be keeping our fingers crossed for the award ceremony on September 9.”

Denbighshire has also been shortlisted for separate awards in the following categories:

  • Best service team – social care service; family support team
  • Best service team: Highways, winter maintenance & street lighting
  • Best service team: Waste management & recycling

The council was also nominated for transport and leisure awards, which were not shortlisted, but even if an individual submission was unsuccessful in the category which it was entered, it has still contributed to the Council being shortlisted for this award.
