South Wales Police is investigating an incident of a sexual nature of an eight-year-old girl in the Rhondda.
The girl was playing in the Hill Street area of Penygraig on Friday, August 6 when sometime between 7.30pm and 8pm she was approached by a teenage boy.
The boy, who is described as having pale skin, ginger hair and freckles, took the girl to a nearby lane when she was indecently assaulted.
The victim then continued her journey home and told her mother what had happened.
Detective Sergeant Phil Simmonds, from Rhondda CID, said: “We are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying this individual who has touched the girl inappropriately and tried to kiss her.
“She was not injured in anyway but naturally was upset and frightened by what had taken place.
“We wish to advise parents that this has happened but also reassure them that incidents such as this are rare and that we are doing everything we can to trace this individual.
“I would urge anyone who recognises him from the description or who thinks they might know who he is, to contact us immediately.”
The suspect is described as white, aged 16 to 18, around 5ft 10in, slim, with a pale complexion, freckles and ginger hair. He was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ton Pentre CID on 01443 743828 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
