Police are warning people to be on their guard when using cash machines after a cloning device was discovered fixed to an ATM at a supermarket in Porthmadog.
Police were called to the Tesco store in High Street Porthmadog at 11.00 am yesterday (Sunday August 15) after a customer alerted them about the device. The customer found that the entrance slot for the card was unusually flexible and then noticed a small camera focused on the PIN pad.
The skimming device is capable of recording card details, while the camera records the users’ PIN number.
Police are urging people to take a close look at ATM machines before they use them and to report anything suspicious to the shop or bank where the ATM is located and to contact the police on 101, if in Wales, or 08456071001 (Welsh line) 08456071002 (English line).
