Once again Neath Port Talbot schools have secured outstanding performances at GCSE.
The WJEC has confirmed that 69% of Neath Port Talbot GCSE entries were awarded passes at the higher grades A*-C compared to a national average of 66%. 18% of qualifications were at the top A* and A grades.
Overall, 99% of Neath Port Talbot entries gained passes at grades A*-G, which also exceeds the national average and is a further improvement on last year’s performance. This year’s attainment in all examination boards at both A*-C and A*-G is higher than last year’s results and secured the best ever performance for the Authority.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, “I am extremely proud of our young people in Neath Port Talbot and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported them to achieve such excellent results. Their parents, schools and communities must also take great pride in their achievements. I would like to wish them well in their future studies or chosen careers.”
Councillor John Rogers, Cabinet Member for Education, School Improvement and Lifelong Learning said, “It gives me immense pleasure to congratulate all pupils on their success and also to pay tribute to all those who have supported them in achieving such remarkable, but highly deserved, results. There have been some outstanding performances from schools and individual pupils. This Authority can be justifiably proud of the pupils’ efforts and I would like to wish them the best as they continue into further education, training or employment”.
Karl Napieralla, Director of Education, Leisure & Lifelong Learning commented, “This is an exceptional set of results that places Neath Port Talbot pupils at the forefront of learning in Wales. To achieve best ever results on the back of continued year on year improvement is remarkable. I congratulate all pupils on their success and would like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the dedication and support provided by head teachers and all their staff to the youngsters in their charge.”
