Caerphilly county borough is supporting a nationwide campaign aimed at ending domestic abuse against women.
The White Ribbon Campaign aims to encourage men to pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
At a recent event, the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership encouraged hundreds of men to sign up to pledge that ‘these hands are not for hurting’, which involved them doing a painted handprint onto a huge banner.
They also signed a pledge and were given a White Ribbon to wear visibly – a symbol that they will never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for the Environment, whose portfolio incorporates community safety said, “Two women are killed by a violent partner or ex-partner every week in England and Wales – domestic abuse is a despicable crime, therefore I am pleased that Caerphilly county borough is supporting this important campaign to help end domestic abuse against women.”
Cllr Judith Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “Domestic violence against both men and women is completely unacceptable, and I am pleased that this important issue is being raised within Caerphilly county borough“.
She continued, “I would encourage anyone reading this who is suffering as a result of domestic abuse to get in touch – you do not have to suffer in silence and there are people out there that can help you and your family.”
The Safer Caerphilly Multi Agency Centre (MAC) is a one-stop-shop for victims of domestic abuse and their families, and is there to offer help and support. The centre provides professional support from a range of agencies, all under one roof.
The aim of the centre is to minimise the number of different agencies that victims of domestic abuse and their families need to get in contact with to seek the help they need.
The key partners involved at the MAC include the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership’s statutory bodies including Caerphilly County Borough Council, Gwent Police and Aneurin Bevan Health Board, as well as Caerphilly Women’s Aid, Victim Support and Gwent Alcohol Project (GAP).
