Detective Inspector Alun Oldfield said: “Today at Caernarfon Crown Court John Bevan was convicted of six offences of false imprisonment, rape, assault, kidnapping and aggravated car theft and theft.
“Having already pleaded guilty to these offences, which took place in May this year in the Flintshire area, he has today been sentenced and imprisoned for public protection and as such has been given an indeterminate sentence.
“However, the judge has said that he will need to serve at least seven years and 80 days before he can be referred to a parole board to establish if he still is a significant risk to members of the public and whether he can ever be released.
Judge Merfyn Hughes QC described him as a significant risk of causing serious harm.
“These offences are almost unparalleled in their depravity and caused a great deal of pain and anguish to his victims.
“On the evening the offences were committed North Wales Police mobilised every possible resource including, firearms officers, detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, dog handlers, armed response vehicles, the force helicopter, search teams and response officers from all over North Wales.
“Bevan was arrested swiftly.
“I would like to re-assure the public that these offences are not common place in North Wales and that we are fully prepared and equipped for investigating such offences.
“North Wales Police are capable and committed to react to the most serious crimes of this nature.”
