What to Watch: Hospital 24/7 Revisited

Wales’ busiest hospital is never still – a steady stream of patients means medical practitioners have their hands full every hour of every day, as Hospital 24/7 discovered in a week-long series earlier this year following just a few of the traumas and triumphs that take place day in, day out.

Now Hospital 24/7 Revisited (Tuesday, August 31, BBC One Wales) returns to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for a final time to find out how those featured have fared since the series was screened in January.

Territorial Army soldier Daryl Davies was brought in by air ambulance after a fall, which could have had grave consequences. His journey back to health as not been an easy one, but he is at last able to continue his studies as a chef at Aberdare College. Hospital 24/7 Revisited catches up with Daryl and also tracks the progress of then-two-year-old Dylan, who was having a cancerous kidney removed.

But one of the most moving stories Hospital 24/7 covered was that of Shelley Louise Harries, who, at just 16, had been told her cancer had returned after just three weeks in remission.

Shelley spent many hours talking to the hospital’s chaplain, Reverend Trevor Williams, and praying with him. Sadly, Shelley died the same night her story was told on television. Hospital 24/7 Revisited catches up with Shelley’s family, who have now moved back to Narberth, to see how they are keeping her memory alive.

Hospital 24/7 Revisited is narrated by actor Jonathan Owen.
