On Thursday 2 September at 4.30pm the St Davids RNLI inshore lifeboat (ILB) under the command of helmsman Michael Phillips, launched on service following reports of a person clinging to an upturned pink coloured kayak near the entrance of Solva Harbour.
Milford Haven coastguard had taken a 999 call from a woman reporting the incident.
As the ILB was nearing Solva Harbour a local coastguard team reported spotting the kayaker swimming ashore pulling the upturned kayak behind him.
After interviewing the casualty, the 21yr old local man informed them that he had submerged the kayak on purpose, in order to pull it ashore and was not in any difficulties.
The ILB at this point was informed that all was well and that they were not required.
The woman who reported the incident was correct in her action, and the incident was treated as a false alarm with good intent.
The ILB returned to station for rehousing at 5.10pm.
The crew were Michael Phillips, John Elsby and Mike Chant.
