Cockett Police Station in Swansea will open its doors to the public on Sunday 12th September for the first ever open day which is being held in conjunction with G4S custody services.
Amongst the star attractions will be the ever-popular police horses, along with the police dogs that will show off their crime-fighting talents. Also present will be traffic vehicles and armed response vehicles, together with static vehicles from both the fire and ambulance service.
The fire service will also be on hand a to display how they deal with severely damaged vehicles following a serious road traffic collision, along with the methods used in dealing with the devastating effects of a chip pan fire. There will also be an opportunity to walk through a smoke tunnel.
Other attractions include vintage cars, football tournament, children’s play area, and the local authority CCTV van
Chief Inspector Will Rees who is co- coordinating the event said
“This is the first time that an event of this nature has been held in Swansea. I would encourage people to come along and see what goes on behind the scenes at their local police station”
“Most peoples perception of what goes on at police stations is what they glean from police programmes on television or if they are unfortunate to have been involved in an incident either as a witness or defendant. The Open Day will hopefully give everyone an insight into just some of the most interesting aspects of local policing.”
Visitors will have an opportunity to take away a souvenir of the day by having their fingerprint and photograph printed on a special card by visiting the cells complex.
Admission and car parking to the open day is free and is being held at Cockett Police Station in John Street, Cockett on Sunday 12th September from 11am until 5pm.
