Commenting on figures released today showing that Wales has the highest level of workless households of all the nations of the United Kingdom (22.9%), Shadow Minister for the Economy, David Melding, said:
“Unemployment has a detrimental impact on the lives of families across Wales and often leads to low self-esteem, depression and many other social problems.
“Breaking this cycle of economic inactivity remains one of the biggest challenges facing the Assembly Government. It is disappointing that after over a decade of Labour Government in the Assembly, the Welsh economy remains the weakest of the nations of the United Kingdom.”
