Commenting on the announcement from the Welsh Local Government Minister of increased business rate relief from 1st October 2010 to 30 September 2011, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Local Government, said:
“This announcement is too little too late and will be of little comfort to the employees of all the businesses that have been forced to close their doors during the recent recession.
“Whilst I welcome any extra support for Welsh businesses, this package falls far short of Welsh Conservative proposals, which would have given 100% relief to businesses with a rateable value of up to £10,000.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the Welsh economy – they deserve to be recognised as such by the Labour-Plaid coalition in Cardiff Bay.”
