Swansea residents can find out more about how they could make a world of difference to a child’s life at a series of special events in the city this month.
Swansea Council’s Foster Swansea Team will be attending a range of community events to give people the opportunity to chat to staff about fostering.
The events are part of a range of measures aimed at recruiting more carers to Foster Swansea- the local authority’s fostering team.
They are needed to meet growing demand for care and for a whole range of fostering provision for youngsters across the city.
Cllr Nick Tregoning, Swansea Council Cabinet Member for Social Services said: “If you are thinking about fostering but you’re not sure what it involves then why not speak to Foster Swansea and find out? That way, you’ll know if fostering is for you and what opportunities to foster are available.
“Swansea Council’s Child and Family Services is investing to achieve better recruitment, retention and training in its fostering services so that the children who come into care are found a stable, nurturing and caring family environment to help them face their futures positively.”
The events kick-off on Sunday September 12 at the Community Spirit Day in Townhill’s Phoenix Centr from 11am to 3pm.
Next week there will be a Foster Swansea exhibit at the Working for you jobs fair at the LC leisure centre on Wednesday September 15 from 10am to 5.30pm.
From Monday September 27 to Friday October 1 the Foster Swansea marketing trailer will be available in Swansea City Centre from 9am to 4.30pm everyday.
Between Monday and Wednesday it will be outside Marks and Spencer. On Thursday and Friday it will be at the entrance to Castle Square.
These events aim to give people who think they may be interested in fostering a friendly opportunity to get the information they need to make this important decision.
They follow an information evening in Newton last month which generated 20 enquiries for information and two people completed applications on the night.
Since the council launched its Make a World of Difference and Foster campaign in May Swansea Council’s Foster Swansea Team has taken 180 enquiries about fostering.
Already 29 applications to become fully-fledged foster cares have been received. Assessments and training are now underway.
