The Gas Man Called this Morning

We always knew our Art Director at Welsh Icons, Norris Nuvo was a talented chap but it was only after one of our recent live events that he let slip that he wrote poetry as well.

It took some persuasion but he has finally consented to allow us to publish a few of his verses which we hope you enjoy as much as we do.

The Gas Man Called this Morning

The Gas Man Called this Morning

The gas-man called this morning to find and stop a leak
They dug and drilled a great big hole, to plug and stop the reek.
They dug up the road and pavement; they dug and dug for hours
They dug up all the gardens; they dug up all the flowers.
The leak was found at long last, and safety was restored
But they had hit a water pipe from which a deluge poured.

The plumber called this afternoon, to find and stop the flood
He dug up all the road again and slopped round in the mud
The putting on his scuba gear he leaped into the lake
Bubbles popping in the murk were all that marked his wake
The man came to the surface and I helped him to climb out
I fixed it he smiled at me, and then the lights went out.

Guess who called this evening, to find and fix the cable?
It was the electrician man, who seemed quite fit and able.
He dug some holes, climbed some poles and changed a fuse or two
And soon enough my lights came on, the gas and water too.
I settled down to watch TV; the soaps would soon be on
I poured myself a glass of beer but now the picture’s gone!

I tried to phone the TV man, but the phone is on the blink
The toilet’s blocked with effluent, and so’s the kitchen sink
My gardens like a bombsite and so is half the street
The boiler’s playing up again and now I have no heat
I climb the stairs to Bedfordshire when the lights go out as well
And as I settle down to sleep, is that ‘cking gas I smell?
