Cardiff Central Library was filled with the sound of music and drums on Saturday, September 26, when the library celebrated its VIBE festival.
The event was organised to celebrate the many cultures that make up the capital city, showcasing the talent and creativity that exists in the vibrant communities of Cardiff.
The library swayed to the beat of various dance and music performances, mixing the traditional with more contemporary styles, including Afro Caribbean, Indian and Somalian.
Chef Anand George from Mint and Mustard in Whitchurch was also on hand to delight audiences with a demonstration of some traditional Indian delicacies. Visitors to the library enjoyed learning the secrets to successful Indian cookery and were even able to sample some of his delicious culinary creations.
Visitors to the library were also able to get Henna tattoos and have their name written in Chinese.
Much of the event took place in the Community Languages section of the library where books and magazines are available in 14 different languages representing the diverse communities of Cardiff. Also available in the library is free Multi Language software, enabling individuals to create letters, emails and documents in over 100 languages including Gujarati, Arabic, Cantonese and Greek.
Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “Cardiff Central Library is a perfect venue to host community events like this. In the heart of the city the library offers a unique space where residents and visitors can come together to enjoy community events.”
