Proprietor of the Welsh Icons group of companies, Dom Stocqueler has launced an audacious attempt to Host the World Series in Wales. Sources close to Stocqueler who runs the Welsh Icons website and the Welsh Icons TV Channel say that he is in negotiations with the organisers of professional baseball in the United States and Canada.
They added:
“Wales has a long history of Baseball and the Roath Recreation Ground has hosted many World Class competitions.
“We believe that Splott Park would make the ideal venue for this prestigious event in 2011 and bring professional baseball to a global audience”.
A spokesman for Cardiff Council’s Department for Sport and Leisure told us:
“We are working closely with the Welsh Icons Group had hope to see this prestigious event come to Splott which would be not only be of benefit to the people of Cardiff, but would focus the eyes of the world on the whole of Wales””.
Shadow Assembly member for Sport, Culture, Face-Painting, Grafitti and Pole-Dancing was more cautious but stated:
“Times are hard but if Welsh Icons can bring the World Series to Splott Park for 2011 we will certainly jump on the bandwagon”.
Iolo Llanfair ap PG from S4C stated that the channel would be happy to cover the event if funding was available and immediately issued a press release which none of us could understand as it was in Welsh.
Finally, the Archbishop of Wales, Barry Norman when asked for a comment told us:
“I am all for it as long as Gaza is allowed to compete and I can watch it on DVD”.
