South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns is pictured awarding the prizes at the annual Tenby Sea Cadets Open Evening.
The Tenby Unit is celebrating after winning a £4,500 lottery grant to help them build new showers and relocate a classroom.
“I was thrilled to be asked to be the guest of honour at their open evening and was impressed by the dedication and hard work shown by the youngsters and volunteer adults alike,” said Mrs Burns.
“I am married to a keen sailor and I think that the sea cadets is a great proving ground for youngsters.”
The Tenby Sea Cadets has been running for 58 years and is based in the three-storey building alongside the Sluice in Tenby Harbour.
The organisation has help from the council in paying the rent but because it is on a fully maintaining lease it has to pay for all repairs and modernisation costs as well as annual running costs of £2,000 per year for insurance and heating.
“The charity does very well raising money from flag days, coffee mornings, donations and choir concerts and they also have support from Tenby Council, Lions International and the Round Table,” added Mrs Burns.
“And a lot of the modernisation work has been carried out by their adult volunteers and cadet parents who deserve huge thanks in keeping costs down.”
