An urgent plea for funding for the restoration of Colwyn Bay pier has been made to the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Assembly Member for Clwyd West, Darren Millar, has written to the Minister for Regeneration seeking funding for the pier. The pier has been unmaintained since 2008 and a recent report commissioned by Conwy County Borough Council has estimated the cost of its renovation to be £5.5 million.
Darren said:
‘It is clear that the condition of the pier is seriously compromised. Urgent action needs to be taken to address growing concerns over the safety and integrity of the structure.
‘I know that Conwy County Borough Council and the Pier Pressure Group are currently exploring funding options available to restore the pier.
‘I have urged the Minister to investigate what funding might be available from the Welsh Assembly Government for the restoration of the pier.
