Commenting on news that the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has announced that ophthalmology services are to be relocated to Abergele Hospital by the end of March next year, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said:
‘I’m delighted that the long-term future of Abergele Hospital has finally been secured.
‘This is welcome news indeed for everyone who has been campaigning to keep the hospital open since 2006, when the then Health Minister announced that the hospital was to be closed following a review of NHS services across North Wales.
‘It has been a privilege to work alongside the Abergele Hospital League of Friends and other local representatives on this issue and I want to pay tribute to their efforts in this hard fought campaign.
‘Abergele Hospital has served the people of North Wales well for many decades in the past – today’s announcement will ensure that it will continue to do so for decades into the future.’
