Beaumaris RNLI rescue canoeist from Menai Strait

Beaumaris inshore lifeboat launched at 2:33pm yesterday afternoon after a canoeist was hit by a large wave and knocked out of his canoe by Penmon.

The man’s father was watching from the shore and raised the alarm after he realized his son was unable to get back into the canoe.

Beaumaris volunteer lifeboat crew were at the scene by 2:40pm where the casualty was helped aboard the lifeboat. Even though the casualty was wearing a lifejacket he was extremely cold and suffered from exposure since he wasn’t wearing a wet suite or dry suite. The ambulance was called to the station where paramedics examined him. Once his body temperature had returned to normal he was handed over to his father.
