Gwynedd Council will be introducing free parking in its car parks in the run-up to Christmas.
As part of its efforts to support the county’s businesses during the current difficult economic climate, Gwynedd Council will provide free parking from 13 December to 28 December to encourage residents to shop locally and take advantage of the variety of Christmas gifts on offer here in Gwynedd.
Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfed Edwards said:
“Gwynedd’s small shops and businesses are the backbone of our local economy and we as a Council are committed to doing all we can to help the current challenging financial climate.
“We are confident that this decision to introduce free parking in the run-up to Christmas again this year will allow shoppers to spend more time in the county’s town centres and provide a welcome boost for local traders.”
Councillor Gareth Roberts, who leads on the Environment for Gwynedd Council noted:
“Ensuring that Gwynedd businesses are best placed during difficult times is vital so that we can maintain a strong local economy.
“We hope that this support along with the continued efforts of the county’s business sector will mean that shoppers from near and far will back Gwynedd’s shops and businesses during the Christmas period.”
Councillor Dewi Lewis, who leads on the Economy and Community added:
“Christmas is the ideal time to back local businesses and to find all kinds of unique gift ideas.
“We received very positive feedback from shopkeepers and businesses from all over the county who told us that the Christmas free parking campaign over recent years helped to attract more shoppers into Gwynedd town centres over the festive period.
“I am confident that this decision will encourage more shoppers to visit our town centres and help Gwynedd’s shops and businesses to have a successful Christmas again this year.”
