On Monday 8 November professional artist, Becky Churchill, will be working with community arts group, Estuary Crafts, at Talacre Beach. There will be an opportunity for the press to meet workshop participants and the artist at 10.30am in the Smuggler’s car park at Talacre Beach.
Becky explains about the workshop:
“We will be looking at recreating the sounds, smells, objects, thoughts and feelings, stories and evidence found along the Flintshire coastline out of litter and driftwood collected while at the beach. “
Becky has been artist in residence along the Flintshire coastline since September and, as well as working with groups of children and adults with additional needs, she has been creating her own body of artwork.
An exhibition of the work created by Becky, and those who participated in her workshops, will be on display at the Holywell Arts and Craft Mill from 12 – 15 December 2010.
In partnership with the Coastal Rangers, the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council have coordinated a year long Art in Nature project, part funded by the Arts Council of Wales, looking at Talacre Beach and the Dee Estuary. Becky Churchill is the first of three artists who will be based along the Flintshire Coastline; painter Jan Gardner will be in residence from January to April 2011, and Clinton Challoner will be in residence making large wooden sculptures from April to July 2011.
