Exploring Welsh nature

Over 80% of Caerphilly County Borough is rural, and includes 5 country parks and over 200 special interest sites and with the increasing interest in science–based programmes such as the BBC’s ‘Bang goes the Theory’ and ‘Autumn Watch’, visitors to Wales can now experience real scientific research and explore the countryside with a group of professional ecologist.

Dr Alex Pollard said, “We set up Eco-explore to allow people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in conservation. Eco-explore’s tours and events are set in the stunning Welsh countryside around Caerphilly county borough and reflect the amazing biodiversity of this dramatic landscape from red kites to reptiles and butterflies to bats.”

Cllr Ron Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Countryside said, “This new business has benefitted from the range of support available to start up businesses in rural areas of the county borough, and I would encourage more rural businesses to get in touch with the Rural Development Team to find out about the support that is available”.

He continued, “Eco–explore’s professional ecologists collect valuable information, which contributes towards national wildlife surveys, Local Biodiversity Action Plans and conservation research at Cardiff University.”
