The Sport Pembrokeshire Awards have yet again attracted a deluge of entries.
One hundred and four nominations have been received for 12 categories in the popular annual award scheme.
Now in its fourth year, the three finalists in each category will announced later this month with the winners unveiled on 26th November at a special ceremony at Folly Farm.
Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Sport, said the Sport Pembrokeshire Award scheme was one of the most popular in Wales attracting around 100 nominations every year,
“The scheme is a chance for us to celebrate the high standard of skill and talent in sport in Pembrokeshire – not forgetting all the hard work and effort which also goes into it,” he said.
“We are delighted to have received yet again this year so many nominations, spanning a huge cross-section of sports, from bowls to sailing, gymnastics and karting – as well as the more traditional track and field.
“The standard has been exceptional over the last three years, but this year it is absolutely outstanding,” he said.
He added: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank our main sponsors – Chevron, The Western Telegraph, Folly Farm and Radio Pembrokeshire – for their continuing support.”
John Deason, Manager of Sport Pembrokeshire – the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council – said:
“Grass roots sport is alive and well in Pembrokeshire. These awards are our chance to celebrate sporting success in the county.
“Everyone nominated deserves recognition for their achievements; whether as performer, coach, teacher or organiser – and all nominees are invited, along with guests, to attend the Awards Special Presentation evening on 26th November at Folly Farm.
“If any other member of the county’s sporting fraternity wishes to attend please contact the Sport Pembrokeshire Office on 01437 776187 without delay as places are limited.”
