Mayor leads appeal for new Pontypridd charity shop

Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd is leading the appeal for support for a new charity shop that has opened in Pontypridd.

Cllr Lloyd joined staff, volunteers and Cardiff Blues star Rhys Thomas for the official opening of the Cancer Research Wales shop in Taff Street this month.

After cutting the ribbon and declaring the venue open, Cllr Lloyd went on to appeal for residents to donate clothes, furniture, toys, bric-a-brac – and maybe even their time – to help the good cause.

It is only through the support of the public that Cancer Research Wales can fund pioneering research projects at hospitals. It guarantees that all money raised in Wales will be spent in Wales.

The new shop is now open from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays.

It is urgently appealing for donated goods that can be sold to raise money – all items can be dropped off at the store or, alternatively, residents can take advantage of the free collection service.

The store is also appealing for people to spare just a few hours a week to volunteer and ensure the shop is a success.

Mayor Cllr Lloyd said: “As someone whose life has been greatly affected by Cancer, it is an honour and a privilege to support and raise the profile of Cancer Research Wales.

“It is only with the support of the public that such shops can be used to raise the essential funds needed to continue research into Cancer.

“I know the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf are extremely generous and supportive and urge them to do what they can to support this good cause.”
