Eighteen local sports and voluntary organisations have been awarded funding from the latest round of the Conwy Community Chest.
The Community Chest Grant Scheme provides financial assistance of up to £1000 for voluntary, community and any organisation that promotes sport and physical activity in the County Borough of Conwy.
Funding is provided for equipment, kit, coach education, facility hire/coach hire, first aid courses and promotion of organisations.
Thanks to Community Chest, rural areas in Conwy have been able to facilitate their own sports and physical activities. Last year, Cymdeithas Chwaraeon Bro Aled benefited from the grant, when local resident Mr Eifion Jones applied for funding to develop football sessions for the local children with weekly sessions and to take part in a local football tournament for the first time. This year, Cymdeithas Chwaraeon Bro Aled is focusing on the young people of Llansannan by developing a small mobile skate park to provide an area to socialise and keep fit.
Community Chest was established in 1999 and since then over 700 projects have benefited.
The grant panel meets on a bi-monthly basis and applications are invited from eligible groups. (Applicants must have a bank account & constitution). The next deadline for applications is 30th November 2010.
